One of the most precious herbs, discovered, studied, and used by herbalists of China, is Astragalus. Astragalus is native to northern China and the elevated regions of the Chinese provinces, Yunnan and Sichuan.

The Chinese use the powdered root of the plant to boost the immune system and the body’s ability to resist various diseases from infections, allergies, and even inhibit the spread and growth of cancer cells. Other medicinal uses for the herb include the treatment of high blood pressure, respiratory infections, night sweats, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. Research indicates that Astragalus may offer antioxidant benefits in people with severe forms of heart disease, relieving symptoms and improving the heart function.

Astragalus contains numerous components, including flavonoids, polysaccharides, triterpene glycosides, amino acids, and trace minerals. One Chinese trial also found that Astragalus could decrease overactive immune function in people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease.

Usually, formulas are made in combination with Echinacea, Ginseng, and other natural herbs which are believed to work best for preventing diseases.
